چکیده

Functional mobility is viewed as essential to enabling an individual to engage in full range of life areas and is central to enabling the individual to participate in live situations. The walking after stroke is characterized by slow gait speed, poor endurance and in the quality and adaptability of walking patterns. The instantaneous adaptation to speed and load changes during over ground locomotion has major implication for mobility after stroke. Task specific training is a therapeutic approach based on System theory given by Berstein in 1967 to retrain the patients with movement disorders. It is a one group pre test post test quasi experiment design with the objective of to find out the effectiveness of task specific training on gait parameters in right hemiparetic patients. 10 right hemiparetic patients (n=10) of either sex in the age group of 40-65 yrs (mean age 54.44 yrs) were selected by convenient sampling method and were assigned in one group. Different tasks in a prefixed pattern aiming at functional activities were introduced over a period of 40 min duration per day/session, 3 days a week and for total duration of 4 weeks. i.e. total 12 sessions. Main outcome measures: Changes were measured in terms of Cadence, Step length, Stride length and Gait Velocity. Significant statistical improvement was measured in terms of cadence (P= 0.038) step length and gait velocity (P= 0.033) whereas there is no significant statistical improvement in Step length (P= 0.140) and Stride length (P= 0.162).

Comparison of Effects of Bilateral Versus Unilateral Quadriceps Training on Balance, Functional Mobility and Functional Gait in Patients With Stroke

Objectives: Motor weakness is a notable symptom after stroke. Hence, the aim of this study was to find out the effect of bilateral quadriceps training compared to that of unilateral quadriceps training on balance, functional mobility and functional gait in patients with stroke. Subjects: Male and female hemiparetic patients between 40-60 years of age with post-stroke of 1-6 months were included...

The Effect of Partial Weight Support with Ground Walking Training on Temporal and Spatial Gait in Patients with Chronic Stroke

Background. There have been many studies on partial weight support walking training. However, most studies have been performed in treadmill settings, not in actual walking environments. Objectives. This study aimed to investigate the effect of partial weight support ground walking training on the temporal and spatial gait parameters of chronic stroke patients. Methods. This study was designed...

Background and Objective: Cerebrovascular accident (CVA) is a severe debilitating neurological condition in adults. This study sought to assess the effect of observation and mimicking functional activities on weight distribution and dynamic balance index improvement in lower limbs of hemiparetic patients based on mirror neuron theory. Materials and Methods: This clinical trial was performed on ...

The Effect of Cognitive and Motor Dual-task Training on Improvement of Balance and Some Spatiotemporal Gait Parameters in People With Idiopathic Parkinson\'s Disease

Background: Parkinson Disease (PD) is characterized by motor and non-motor symptoms that affect patients’ functions, especially while performing dual tasks--a critical factor in everyday living. However, many controversies exist about the benefits of dual-task training in patients with PD. Objectives: This study assessed the efficacy of motor and cognitive dual-task training in improving balanc...

Effect of treadmill exercise training on spatial and temporal gait parameters in subjects with chronic stroke: a preliminary report.

The effects of task-repetitive locomotor training on stroke patients' spatial and temporal gait parameters during unassisted walking are not well understood. This study determined the effects of treadmill aerobic exercise (T-EX) on spatial and temporal gait parameters that underlie changes in overground walking function. Thirty-nine subjects with hemiparetic stroke underwent T-EX three times we...
